What is a Packaged System?

In a packaged system, all of the components of the central air conditioner or heat pump are “packaged” together into a single cabinet. The cabinet is usually placed on the roof or on a concrete slab next to your house's foundation. This type of air conditioner is also commonly used in small commercial buildings. Air supply comes from indoors through return ducts routed through the home’s  exterior wall or roof. Packaged systems are available as air conditioner or heat pump only, or in combination with a gas furnace. Packaged systems eliminate the need to house part of the system indoors.
